She worked as a resident midwife and preceptor for the North American Registry of Midwives at Maternidad la Luz for two years, where she shared and taught her knowledge to many midwifery students.

In 2017, together with a collective of midwives, she helped establish the Borderlands Birth project and Luna Tierra Birth House on the border between Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and El Paso, Texas, a team of birth workers committed to reproductive justice for people with uteruses and to improving access to care for families on both sides of the border.

She participated in organizing health workshops and training Community Health Promoters in Palomas, Mexico, through the Borderlands Birth Project. Also on the border, she volunteered with the West Fund, an organization focused on providing funding for safe abortions for families in need.

In 2017, she traveled to Yucatán, Mexico, where she met renowned traditional midwife, Doña Rafaela Can Aké, and learned more about traditional Mayan abdominal massage, herbs, and postpartum ceremonies.

Mumu is a certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice, and, as a midwife, she holds certifications in neonatal resuscitation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

She studied psychology at Universidad del Este in Carolina and studied sign language at Berkeley City College.
