MIDWIFERY SERVICES
Prenatal Care
We offer individualized prenatal care focused on education, counseling, prevention, and continuous support throughout pregnancy. Appointments take place in the comfort of your home or at our office.
We answer questions, offer recommendations for common pregnancy discomforts, explain laboratory and ultrasound results, and provide guidance on nutrition and healthy habits. We monitor maternal and fetal well-being by evaluating blood pressure, pulse, uterine growth, the baby's position and growth, as well as the baby's heartbeat. When necessary, we perform fetal well-being monitoring tests, such as the Non-Stress Test (NST).
We also prioritize emotional health through screening tools and referrals to professionals as needed. We guide and support you while developing your birth plan.
As part of our educational commitment, we offer childbirth classes and continually share literature and informational resources about pregnancy, labor, birth, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period, so that each family can make informed decisions. We encourage the participation of partners and older siblings.
Home Birth
Available on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from 37 to 42 weeks of gestation. Our support includes continuous care and monitoring during active labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period. We perform intermittent fetal heart rate monitoring and monitor maternal vital signs during labor. We facilitate non-pharmacological pain management strategies, including mobility, position changes, and the use of a birth stool or birth pool.
Throughout the process, we provide support to promote adequate hydration, nutrition, and maternal comfort. After birth, we assess maternal and newborn vital signs, perform the newborn's clinical physical examination, and encourage delayed umbilical cord clamping. Before we leave, we make sure that the mother has showered, eaten, and is stable, and that the baby has latched onto the breast.
Postpartum Care
We offer holistic, personalized care during the first six weeks postpartum, focused on maternal recovery, emotional well-being, and newborn health.
Care includes monitoring the mother and baby's vital signs, the newborn's clinical examination, and screening tests, such as the newborn heel-prick blood test and Critical Congenital Heart Disease Screening (CCHD).
We administer the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale to identify potential emotional support needs and facilitate referrals to mental health professionals when necessary.
We provide breastfeeding and infant feeding counseling, maternal nutrition guidance, and family planning. We also offer postpartum sobada, traditional hip closing ceremonies, and herbal preparations for vaginal care.
Families receive educational resources, including videos and informational materials about newborn care, postpartum recovery, maternal mental health, infant feeding, and other important aspects of this stage. We also help families identify a good pediatrician.
Childbirth Preparation Classes
As part of our home birth service, we include four educational classes designed to prepare the pregnant person and their family for birth and the postpartum period.
Two classes are offered by perinatal educators and include comfort measures, the stages of labor, and pain management during labor, as well as education about postpartum recovery, newborn care, and breastfeeding.
The other two classes, offered by Mumu, cover the signs of labor, contraction monitoring, when to contact the midwife, what to expect upon her arrival, maternal and fetal monitoring, and the first hours after birth. Education about recognizing and initially managing complications and emergencies during labor and home birth, as well as the criteria and procedures for a possible transfer from home to the hospital, is also provided.
Collaborative Care and Support Network
We believe in the importance of comprehensive and collaborative care. For this reason, we maintain connections with professionals in different areas of healthcare, including pediatricians, obstetricians, perinatologists, perinatal psychologists, chiropractors, audiologists, naturopaths, doulas, and lactation consultants. We also have connections for complementary services, such as placenta encapsulation.
When a family requires it, we can provide guidance on additional resources and professionals who complement their care during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Our commitment is to support every family with respect, recognizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and an appropriate support network at every stage.
Prenatal and Postpartum Consultations for Families Planning a Hospital Birth
We offer prenatal and postpartum consultations for families planning a hospital birth who wish to receive individualized guidance, education, and support during these stages. These consultations provide a space to ask questions, prepare for birth, identify an obstetrician, discuss family preferences, and receive guidance on maternal and newborn care, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery. They also include birth plan preparation and childbirth classes.
Preconception Consultation
We offer preconception consultations for individuals and families who wish to prepare for a future pregnancy, with individualized guidance on health, supplementation, healthy habits, and well-being before conception. This consultation includes a sobada.
Support During Pregnancy Loss
We offer holistic midwifery care and personalized support throughout the process of pregnancy loss. We provide support and clinical follow-up as a complement to medical care, guidance on physical recovery and nutrition, as well as resources for emotional and mental support. This service includes an abdominal sobada and hip closing ceremony as part of comprehensive and respectful care.
